Midday Music Wednesday 10/08/08
Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, begins this evening. On Midday Music we hear Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei, based on the Aramaic prayer that opens the evening service; Matthew Fields' Call of the Shofar for trombone quartet; a demonstration of a real shofar (ram's horn); Osvaldo Golijov's Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind; the "Confession" section of Ernest Bloch's Baal Shem Suite; and a maybe, possibly, conceivably Kol-Nidre-related bit of a Beethoven string quartet.
Thursday's Midday Music comes from WSVH Savannah; playlists here. Friday is requests with Alan Cooke; playlists here. See you next week. -Sarah
