Concerts this Memorial Day weekend:

  • The Augusta Choral Society presents a performance honoring our fallen heroes, with chorus and instrumentalists. Saturday, May 24, 7:30 p.m., Sacred Heart Cultural Center, Augusta. Details.
  • The Atlanta Symphony welcomes back guest conductor Nic McGegan for "An Evening of Musical Shakespeare," featuring the orchestra and vocal soloists, plus actors from Georgia Shakespeare, who perform excerpts from Shakespeare's plays between the musical selections. Thursday-Saturday, 8 p.m., Symphony Hall, Atlanta.
  • The LaGrange Symphony Swing Band, led by Patricio Cobos, presents "Songs That Won the War," a pops concert honoring World War II veterans and all the people of our armed forces. Speaking of fallen heroes, that's the theme of this week's Atlanta Symphony broadcast on GPB. Robert Spano conducts a thematic program combining Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, John Adams' On the Transmigration of Souls, an Elegy by John Corigliano and Beethoven's heroic "Eroica" Symphony.
