How about some visuals to go with the sounds? Holst's Morris Dance Tunes might mean more to you if you've seen images of the old English morris dancing tradition in action, like this or this. Scan photos from across the eventful life of Carlos Chavez, who wrote his Piano Sextet as a teenager amid Mexico's prolonged revolution. Or check out the young Georgia talent of the Columbus State University Wind Ensemble, which launches the noon hour with Peter Graham's Pentium, a piece that's been described as "a short ride on a PC." The CSU Wind Ensemble records for the Summit Records label. This disc is the third thumbnail below, with the stars and lightning.
In order now, here are today's Jenkins, Chavez, Graham, Ginastera, Borodin, Onslow,
Britten and Godar.
Hope you enjoyed them. Please e-mail middaymusic@gpb.org with comments or questions! Full rundown follows.
